Chinese Restaurants

Most Wednesdays the Hubby and I have a date night but it's a date nite with a bit of a difference. The only way I can get the hubby to agree to our weekly night out is making it Chinese Wednesday.

Below is a list of the restaurants we've visited so far. Obviously these are only my thoughts and as with anything each to their own.

Obviously this page will be a working progress and as we try more chinese restaurants I will add them.

This is my favourite local restaurant. It can be a little quiet midweek but the food is in my opinion exceptional for a local restaurant. It's set in the small village of Sawbridgeworth and it has a pretty garden where you can have a drink before sitting down to eat. I'd say this is more of a special occasion night out and it's not somewhere I'd particularly feel comfortable taking the grandchildren.

2. Peking Palace - Sawbridgeworth

This in my opinion is good for a quick midweek dinner. The portions sizes are excellent but in my opinion the food is quite average.  The atmosphere is good with a nice balance of families and adult only tables. The great thing about this place is it's really relaxed and you could happily turn up in jeans and trainers or dressed up for a special occasion.

3. Zenxi - Chelmsford

I love this restaurant as you feel like you're in The West End rather than Essex. The decor is great and they also have live entertainment one Sunday a month. We have only been on a Wednesday evening but there's always quite a few people in the restaurant. The food is fabulous and I'd happily have a family dinner here and equally recommend a romantic dinner for two.

This was my Dad's recommendation and I've got to say it's my least favourite of all the restaurants we have tried. When I mentioned it wasn't really for me he told me my auntie and uncle had been going there for 28 years. I felt this was reflected in the menu and decor.

5. Royal China - Canary Wharf

I really like this restaurant and feel It comes into it's best during the summer months as there's something wonderful about sitting eating by the river thames in the sunshine. The food is delicious but service is just ok as last time we went we did wait quite some time for our menus to be delivered and our drinks order to be taken.

This is my 10/10, my last meal choice if I was offered chinese. It's incredible, honestly this place has it all, impeccable service, a stunning menu, the most amazing setting, a real buzzy atmosphere and desserts to die for. The pastry chef here is incredible oh my I nearly forgot the cocktails, honestly this place is a REAL gem, it's the real deal. As you may have gathered I love it.
